Road fatalities are ranked as the ninth largest cause of deaths worldwide. Driver education plays a large role in the prevention of accidents. Research has uncovered many limitations and problems that exist within education in general. New methods such as the gamification of education attempt to overcome these problems by making learning more intrinsically rewarding. Game environments also encourage experimentation and mastery by instilling a sense of optimism in the user. This thesis aims to create a realistic driving environment that affords the implementation of gaming techniques and experimentation, by eliminating the dangers that exist. Local research groups influenced the design and use of the technology from start to finish in conjunction with the beliefs of world leading experts in the realm of education and games.
